Best Sports Games For Nintendo DS

One of the most entertaining games that are usually local co-op is spots games. However, they are also fun and provide hours of entertainment as a single player on consoles like Nintendo DS. This legendary handheld console was released back in 2004 and it became an instant hit due to the “Dual Screen” capabilities, built-in microphone, and wireless connection that was revolutionary at that time.

This Game Boy-looking console changed portable gaming forever and if you ever owned one, there are good chances that you owned a few sports games in your collection.

The Nintendo DS can still be fun today, especially if you like to bring back some memories of some of the best sports classics.

With that said, let’s highlight some of the best sports games for Nintendo DS.

  1. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games

Mario and Sonic fused to create the ultimate winter Olympic game, just shortly after they went head-to-head in Smash Bros. Brawl. The game is released back in2009 and it became an instant hit for Nintendo DS players.

Since we are talking about winter sports, the game is all about snowboarding, hockey, skiing, bobsleigh, and more. There is a wide selection of mini-games (27) where players can jump into the gameplay by playing with other NPCs.

After each event, you get scored based on your in-game performance, and it is a nice way to spice up the competition between friends.

  1. FIFA Street 3

Want to play soccer in your local neighborhood and do some crazy tricks that are incredibly satisfying? Well, FIFA Street is the perfect game for you. This is a game where you can control every aspect of your team’s performance. From shooting and passing to more advanced moves like headers, bicycle kicks, or juggling.

The game has simple button controls where certain combination leads to some impressive ankle-breaking skills (which is probably why it doesn’t hold very high reviews). Still, it can bring endless hours of fun.

FIFA Street 3 has an exclusive mini-game only for Nintendo DS called KickUps where the game challenges you to keep the ball in the air by juggling.

You can also build your team in the Street Challenge Mode and improve your reputation by beating the competition which will unlock new skills and moves.

  1. Backyard Basketball

Let’s cruise along with the street sport spirit and highlight another game that takes place in the neighborhood. The best thing about Backyard Basketball is its features such as real teams and players. There are 30 NBA teams and 6 made-up ones and more than 18 professional NBA players featured in this game.

The other characters are filled with kinds from the Backyard Sports franchise. Considering its cartoonish nature, the game has a pretty decent resemblance to their NBA counterparts.

The main game is 3v3 street basketball that is played on kid-sized courts. The game has simple controls where you can shoot, pass, spin, steal, and pump fake.

There is a shot meter at the bottom of the screen that reflects the power of the throw and the direction where the ball is going.

All in all, this isn’t a 2K basketball game with high-end graphics and you won’t be able to play with the NBA’s 10 Best Point Guards, but we can still promise hours of entertainment.

Tony Hawk’s American Sk8land

If you were a teenager in the early 20s, there is a high chance that you’ve already played all Tony Hawk’s games since they were extremely popular back then. This is one of the best games in the collection that started the portable console movement for skating games.

Tony Hawk’s American Sk8land is one of the best adaptations from standard console to Nintendo DS just because it maintained most of the original graphics, novel look, solid gameplay, and most importantly online play.

The game is constantly throwing goals at you that you need to finish and most of them are for doing tricks or skating around going to different places. This game is more focused on the younger audience with its easy-to-understand controls and simple gameplay.

With that said, there are some goals that are very hard to complete. For example, the game will give you 10 difficult tricks and a two-minute timer that is very hard to complete.

It is definitely a great game that offers a lot of fun behind the Nintendo DS console.
