ARD and ZDF Media Library: Download Images Instantly – This is how it works

Movies, shows and episodes presented by ARD, ZDF and other public broadcasters can only be viewed for a limited time in media libraries with your radio license fee. But is it possible to save exciting movies permanently and watch them again at any time? No problem, free website makes downloading enjoyable. That is how it is done.

Find the program you like

In Firefox, Chrome, Edge or Safari or another compatible browser. You do not need a login to use this page and you do not have to pay for it. Enter the desired search term in the field next to “Search”. Ideally, you previously searched the web for the correct name of the program and now enter it.

Mediathekviewweb gives you real-time appointments from ARD, ZDF, BR, HR and many more public broadcasters. ZDF info, including contributions from exciting special interest channels like Arte or Phoenix.

You have these options

For each hit, you will find the station and title and the first release date, time and duration. If you click on the small blue triangle behind the title, you will get a brief description of the content. On the right, behind the blue icon, you can see the options available to you now. Click on it. You can now stream the movie from your browser, but most importantly, you can download the movie instantly.

How to start the download

You can choose one of different file sizes while downloading. If your internet connection allows, you must use the highest quality. Then click on the floppy disk icon. The video will now launch on Firefox. Now right-click on the video and select “Save Video As …”. Now select the storage location and the download will start. In some cases, you can download the video directly from Mediathekviewweb, bypassing the start-up interval.

If you start multiple downloads at once, it may take a while for all downloads to start. So be patient. Mediathekviewweb works very reliably.

Applications in the ARD and ZDF Media Libraries for iOS and Android also provide “download functionality”. But this is only an offline viewing function and not an actual download. Because once the said image is removed from the media library it can no longer be viewed in the app. Additionally, you can view such images only in the Media Library app. On the other hand, if you download the movie to your computer using Mediathekviewweb, it will be available for unlimited time on all devices.

The Media Library display is also available as a free tool. But with Mediathekviewweb, unlike Mediathekview, you do not need to install any software, you just need a compatible browser.
