Apple releases iOS 15.1 for iPhone with new features

In the evening, Apple released the iPadOS 15.1 for the iPad Air 2 and the new iOS 15.1 for the iPhone 6s and newer. The update to iOS 15.1 adds SharePlay, a completely new way to share FaceTime experiences with family and friends. This version offers the ability to record ProRes videos for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, as well as verifiable COVID-19 vaccine cards in the Apple Wallet and other functionality and bug fixes for your iPhone. This update also includes important security updates and is recommended for all users. This update introduces the following new features and enhancements:

Shareplay

• SharePlay is a new way to share synced experiences on FaceTime with content from Apple TV Apps, Apple Music, Fitness + and other supported App Store apps.
• Common controls give everyone the ability to pause, play, rewind or move fast.
• Smart volume control automatically lowers the volume of a movie, TV show or song while your friends are talking.
• Apple TV supports the option to view the shared video on the big screen as you continue the FaceTime conversation on the iPad.
• Screen sharing allows everyone in a FaceTime call to view photos, browse the web, or help each other.

Photo tool

• ProRes video recording with iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
• Sets to turn off automatic camera switch when taking macro photos and videos on iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Apple Wallet

• COVID-19 Vaccine Card Support allows you to add and distribute verifiable vaccine data in the Apple Wallet.

Translate

• Support for Mandarin Chinese (Taiwan) and computer-wide translation in the translation application.

Home-App

• HomeKit-driven new automation based on current measurements of humidity, air quality or light level sensor.

Shortcuts

• New pre-made actions allow you to overwrite text in images or gifs, and a new set of games allows Siri to pass the time.

This version also fixes the following issues:

• Photos Apps may incorrectly report that memory is full when importing photos and videos.
• The weather application may not display my current location temperature and may not accurately display the colors of the animated background.
• Apps’ audio playback may be interrupted when the screen is locked.
• Wallet may exit unexpectedly when using voiceover with multiple passes.
• Available WiFi networks may not be authorized.
• The battery algorithms in the iPhone 12 models have been improved over time to better assess battery capacity.
