As the United States intensifies sanctions on Russia over its military operation in Ukraine, Dmitry Rokosin, head of the Russian space agency Roscosmos, has warned of the possible consequences of sanctions on the ISS and station flying countries.
“Perhaps President Biden does not know. And who’s going to stop it from falling into the US and Europe’s?
He added that the station did not fly over Russia, and wondered if those imposing sanctions on Russia were “not suffering from Alzheimer’s”.
NASA’s reaction
Mr. In response to Rogozin’s comments, a NASA spokesman told CNN that the company continues to work with Roscosmos to “protect the current operations of the International Space Station.”
“New control measures Exports will continue to enable US-Russian civil space cooperation, “he told CNN.
Former NASA astronaut Garrett Reisman told the channel that a “conciliatory divorce” between the Russian and American divisions of the station was impossible.
“The Russian side can not operate on the U.S. side without electricity, and the U.S. side cannot operate without the propulsion systems on the Russian side,” he added.
