WhatsApp chats are now automatically deleted after 24 hours, seven days or three months.
Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg today unveiled a new feature for WhatsApp on Facebook
Announced
. Messenger can now automatically delete chats and messages after a certain period of time. Although it is possible for chats to disappear automatically after seven days, there are now two new time limits: 24 hours and 90 days.
Remove after 24 hours or 90 days
In the options for self-deleting messages, users can specify that selected new chats will be automatically removed from Messenger after 24 hours or 90 days.
“Not all messages have to be permanent”
, Zuckerberg said in the official announcement of the new feature.
According to the meta, existing chats will not be deleted or changed when the new function is activated. This will only apply to newer chats, which other chat participants will see through a message in the dialog window.
That is how it is done
This option can be found under the Settings Account Privacy Default Message Period. The deadline of 24 hours, seven days and 90 days can be set here and then applied to all new private chats. If users only want to enable the function for selected chats, they can do so by tapping the chat partner’s name on the chat they want. In the overview page that opens here, you can select self-delete messages for this private chat.
