Telecom warns: New Apple functionality sucks up your data volume

The Deutsche Telekom Currently warns iPhone users that data may be accidentally used up. More precisely, it is about a process that causes problems with the telecom tariff “StreamOn”. With iOS 15, iPhone users are provided with a “private relay” function. Users’ browsing behavior is encrypted and sent only after that.

Although this function helps to hide one’s own tracks on the network, it does interfere with StreamOn charges. This is because it calculates the data consumption of the telecom partners from the actual consumption of the users. So if you stream a lot on YouTube or listen to internet radio, you will not use the monthly scale.

However, streaming charges cannot be assigned to a partner because they cover “private relay” functions. Customers use their own data size seamlessly.

At least Telecom still clarifies everything. Currently, only a quarter of the top 50 StreamOn partners are affected. Nevertheless, customers may experience a bitter awareness when they see the bill at the end of the month or when the data amount is used in advance. IPhone users can manually deactivate the “Private Relay”. To do this, go to the settings of the Apple device and then go to “iCloud” and “Private Relay”.

Meanwhile, Telecom has been informing all the affected partners and working with them to find a solution to the problem. In the medium term, even if you want to use the new iPhone feature, there should not be much problems. Once all the providers have settled, we will let you know about it here.
