Keys to the editorial of public data

The white paper you are about to read is more than just a guide to implementing open data in communities. A duty subject to many local authorities, many of which are still unknown to this day. Opinions of public data, openness, publication and more, what they mean in social services, should raise mountains of questions.

But if this white paper is more than a guide, it is precisely because, it suggests that you should focus on the basic questions beyond the technical questions: What is the use of open data? How do I use them for my own needs? What story (s) do I tell my territory, or rather, how do I get them to tell stories to selected executives, agents, your members, businesses?

This white paper is the fruit of a story, journalists of the Gazette des Communes, ten years ago, rubbed shoulders with the new practices of potential data journaling with digital tools and found potential information that public databases could represent to their readers. He also gave us some hope.

Edit Data – As if noticing that source data is not of much use. It is understandable and understandable only when it is placed in one context, one historical and, at the very least, transcended with another data. This is really a question of data editing.

Another belief: When we process data, we bring out information, and then multiply this process across all regions, getting an information service, an information as a process. Service (IaaS – software as we call it, SaaS, for remotely accessible software). The “La Gazette” has always been an approach to the right sequel, with the purpose of providing itself, beyond declaring: it must be a tool that works in the service of its readers and its users.
