Homepage: iOS 14.4 brings new functionality

For weeks, Apple has been testing iOS 14.4 for the iPhone and iPod. At the same time, it was known at an early stage that users with HomePot might expect some new features. With the latest updates, Software version 14.4 has now been released for HomePot and HomePot Mini, which adds extra functionality to the latter, while the software for the standard model is optimized and bugs fixed.

Focus on Apple’s U1 chip

In a keynote address in October, Apple promised a new experience when transferring playback from the iPhone to the Home Pod Mini. This should be made possible by the U1 chip used by Apple since the iPhone 11, which is also available in the mini version of the smart speaker. According to Apple, the transaction between devices must now be seen, heard and perceived.

How the exchange works with the HomePot Mini and the U1 chip

If you access the HomePot Mini with a music-powered iPhone, a small pop-up will appear, which will decrease the distance and enlarge, opening a window at some point. At the same time, it enhances the vibrations on the iPhone, while the light on the smart speaker shines brighter and stronger.

According to Apple, this is also new:

Software version 14.4 includes bug fixes and the following new features for iPhones with Ultra-Whiteband chip (U1):

  • Convert music on the iPhone to the Homepot Mini with visual, audio and haptic effects
  • Customized listening suggestions on the iPhone when the HomePot Mini is nearby
  • Automatically display media controls without opening the iPhone when the HomePot Mini is nearby

What do you think about the new features? Have they succeeded or is it a trick? Let us know in the comments.
