Do you have a smartphone that wants to take great pictures? You can get it with the new Google Camera 8.1 mode based on Google’s Pixel 5 camera app. Google’s pixel phones have always been number one in the smartphone camera world. Google’s exceptional work with computational photography has allowed pixel phones to play above their weight class.
XDA-Developers XDA senior member Urnix 05 has announced the release of this latest Google Camera Mode. These mods allow devices that support the use of the same camera app found on pixel devices. With the release of the Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4A5G came version 8.0 of the Google Camera app.
That release came with a new UI and some new features. With these features and the new UI finally released version 8.1 for older pixel devices last month. One of the new features is the new “Storage Saver” mode, which allows users to take more photos and videos. This is a great feature considering Google is stopping their free unlimited high quality photo storage.

What if you do not belong to the Google Pixel family? No need to worry, because the mod coming from X is bringing these features and changes to non-pixel devices. Not only will you get the new “Storage Saver” mode and the new UI, but you will also get more features.
The complete changelog for the latest Gigam mode lists all changes. This is a long list of improvements that will enhance the performance of the application for non-pixel devices. Now Google Camera 8.1 Mode should work on most pixel and non-pixel devices according to the original announcement.
