COVID-19 lockdowns have led to an early Christmas boom for online retailers.
Andrew Charlton, director of Alphabeta, an analytics firm, said the coronavirus had created an increase in online shopping across the country.
“It’s a lot of people, especially older Australians, who have to try shopping online for the first time – and the coronavirus is long gone,” he said.
This year’s Small Business Recovery Research, commissioned by American Express, examined the impact of COVID-19 on Australian small businesses and found that 52 percent of consumers are concerned about their safety when shopping in stores.
With more than two months left to fill the Christmas stockings, retailers continue to entice shoppers in stores or online with Black Friday (November 27), Cyber Monday (November 30) and Christmas sales events.
Online shopping website Catch.com Chief Marketing Officer Ryan Gracie says the must-have item in 2020 are tech gifts.
“Some of our bestsellers include smart home products, televisions and gaming consoles like the Nintendo Switch,” he says.
“We hope the drones will become bestsellers as Aussies look forward to exploring the great outdoors.”
Kmart Divisional Merchandise Manager Robert Day encourages customers to shop for their favorite items.
To reduce the burden on large ticket purchasers, “buy now and pay later” companies prefer Om Offering $ 30,000 to cover the cost of transactions with interest-free repayment options ranging from six months to 60 months.
“We allow customers to pay longer, which makes expensive purchases more affordable,” said Hum CEO Rebecca James.
The company recently saw a 262 percent increase in online sales as people cracked white eggs and outdoor furniture for their home remodels.
“The number of retailers offering promotions and contracts will continue to grow from now until December,” Ms James said.
