Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold2 Could Arrive Earlier as Foldable Phone Competition Intensifies

Samsung is reportedly preparing to accelerate its plans for the next generation of foldable smartphones following Apple’s entry into the category with the iPhone Duo, as competition in the premium mobile market begins to intensify.

Online reports citing unnamed industry sources suggest Samsung could bring forward the launch of the Galaxy Z TriFold2, while also preparing additional experimental form factors as it seeks to strengthen its position in foldable devices.

Samsung Reportedly Accelerates Galaxy Z TriFold2 Plans

The Galaxy Z TriFold2 is expected to succeed Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold, expanding the company’s efforts beyond conventional book-style and clamshell foldable smartphones.

According to the latest reports, Samsung intends to make the next-generation model lighter and thinner while improving its overall durability. Despite those upgrades, the company is reportedly aiming to retain the same launch price as the original Galaxy Z TriFold, which debuted at $2,899.

No official specifications have yet been announced, and Samsung has not confirmed a release timetable for the device.

However, the reports suggest that the Galaxy Z TriFold2 could arrive earlier than previously planned, although its launch is still not expected before 2027.

Apple’s iPhone Duo Adds New Competition

The reported change in Samsung’s plans follows Apple’s announcement of the iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone.

Apple’s arrival introduces another major competitor into a segment where Samsung has spent years developing its Galaxy Z range. Industry analysts cited in reports expect Apple to become one of Samsung’s most significant rivals in foldable smartphones and potentially secure a substantial share of the market.

The introduction of a foldable iPhone could also increase mainstream awareness of the category. Greater consumer interest may help expand the overall market rather than simply shifting existing foldable customers between manufacturers.

For Samsung, that could create both additional competition and an opportunity to introduce more specialised devices aimed at consumers seeking alternatives to conventional smartphones.

Samsung Slideable Smartphone Could Join 2027 Line-Up

Samsung’s foldable ambitions may not be limited to the Galaxy Z TriFold2.

Reports indicate that the South Korean technology group is also developing its first slideable smartphone, which could launch alongside or around the same period as the next TriFold model.

A slideable handset would offer another approach to expanding screen size. Rather than relying on multiple folding sections, the display could extend from the body of the device when additional screen space is required.

    Foldable Market Enters New Phase

Samsung has been one of the most prominent manufacturers in the foldable smartphone sector, using its Galaxy Z portfolio to develop new designs and refine flexible-display technology.

Apple’s entry could encourage manufacturers to invest further in thinner designs, improved hinges, stronger displays and alternative form factors as competition moves beyond traditional smartphones.

For UK consumers, the development could eventually mean a wider choice of premium foldable and expandable-screen devices, although availability, regional pricing and release dates for Samsung’s reported products remain unconfirmed.

With the Galaxy Z TriFold2 reportedly targeting improvements in weight, thickness and durability, and a slideable handset also said to be in development, Samsung appears to be preparing for a more competitive era in foldable smartphones. The next major developments are expected in 2027, when the company’s broader plans for its experimental mobile range could become clearer.
