At its last I/O conference, Google announced that the deployment of Wallet as an alternative to Google Pay has started on all Android smartphones worldwide. Eligible users can download the app from its predecessor with a simple update. It allows you to store your bank cards, identification documents or even various tickets.
Has Google finally found its definitive payment solution? It’s been a long road to get to where we are today. It all started in 2011, when the company presented Google Wallet, a payment application that worked with NFC technology, including other methods of transferring money. Later, in 2018, the app merged with Android Pay to become Google Pay, and still is today. But according to its latest update, not for very long.
In fact, in April of this year, rumors about the revival of Google Wallet surfaced on the Internet. The rumors are true: at the Google I/O conference last May, the manufacturer confirmed that the app would make a comeback. It is no longer a simple payment solution, as bank cards, ID cards, keys, various tickets and vaccination passes can be stored in the app.
Android smartphones come with Google Wallet
This brand new Google Wallet application has been launched in 39 countries, Google spokesperson Saiti Sen announced. In France, the app will replace Google Pay, while these will remain for some time in certain regions, including the US. So there’s nothing to do except download the Google Pay update and access its successor.

According to First Income, Google Wallet integrates colors that change according to the user’s settings and tap-to-pay technology. Adding a new document is also easy with a button located directly on the home screen. If you don’t have access to the app yet, be patient: Google says it’s coming in the coming days.
