MONTREAL – A widespread network outage at Rogers Communications affected several businesses and organizations in Quebec on Friday.

Interac and debit card payment services have been significantly disrupted at the Société Québécois du Ganja (SQDC) and La Ronde branches.

SQDC clarified that credit card and cash payments are working properly. Montreal’s La Ronde amusement park, for its part, invited the public to download or print tickets before visiting the park.

Telecom giant GoJeco also suffered the effects of the outage, which Rogers Communications announced on its website Friday morning.

“We are currently experiencing high wait times due to the outage reported by Rogers. We have employees working remotely using this network”, we can read on Cogeco Quebec’s Twitter account.

Rogers Communications said the problem affected both its wireless and home service customers, as well as phone and chat support. The Toronto-based company, however, did not say Friday morning what caused the outage.

The municipal department is also not left out. The city of Montreal noted that its 311 phone system, which handles citizen requests, was unreachable.

In Quebec, the bike-sharing service has also been suspended because the Rogers network will not allow connecting terminals, the Réseau de transport de la Capitale noted.
