Matter’s promise is to break down the invisible walls that prevent connected home appliances from contacting each other.
By Thomas Casaveccia
ETrying to make your home better will soon be hell. Some devices work via WiFi, while others use the Bluetooth or Thread connection protocol. It’s hard to go between so many options. Especially since many of these linked products have difficulty communicating with each other.
To complicate matters further, device ecosystems are often shut down. Google could not control the Nest thermostat with its Alexa speaker or Apple Home Pod. The first choice criterion when you want to buy a linked product is its compatibility with one or the other ecosystem. If we are careless with this criterion we will quickly find three or four applications to control a few objects.
