Microsoft has fixed bugs in Windows 10 with Outlook’s search functionality. Security updates released from version KB5007253 in November 2021 did not provide many users with the current results of the search. Emails stored locally as PST or OST files do not appear as a result.
According to Microsoft POP, IMAP accounts, Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft 365 accounts from broken email search Affected. If the default search server is set to search in the Outlook application, the error only affects advanced search. Microsoft detects bugs with out-of-band Windows updates or feature Retrieval of known issues (KIR) Deleted. However, with the latter, as Microsoft announced, the adjustment can take up to 24 hours. Restarting can have a quick effect.
The following Windows operating systems and servers were affected:
- Client: Windows 11, version 21H2; Windows 10, version 21H2; Windows 10, version 21H1; Windows 10, version 20H2; Windows 10, version 1809; Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019
- Server: Windows Server, version 20H2; Windows Server, version 1809; Windows Server 2019
Windows Administrators can install and configure group policies on corporate devices to fix bugs. Microsoft has released group guidelines for corporate environments. It is important to use appropriate group policies.
Microsoft advises Windows 11 users and those who have not yet received a bug fix through KIR to disable Windows desktop search and switch to Outlook’s built-in search engine.
