4K / UHD with 160Hz and ATW polarizer

LG has unveiled the Ultragear 32GQ950 at CES in Las Vegas, targeting gamers. The 31.5-inch Nano IPS panel has a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels and a repeatable rate of 144 Hz, which can be overridden by 160 Hz. LG is wary of technical data and calls the display certified with HDR 1000, which guarantees a maximum brightness of 1,000 candles per square meter. With backlighting, however, it is not clear how many zones it supports. It is also believed to glow at the edges without being direct. Typical for IPS, the variance should be 1,000: 1. It is common to refer to the millisecond gray-to-gray response time.

Interestingly, LG is bringing back the ATW polarizer. ATW stands for Advanced True White and the filter reduces IPS brightness. LG says: “Nano IPS with ATW polarizer technology supports true color reproduction for vibrant displays.” Tests should show how well it works. It is hoped that dark image content will “shine” less in the dark and the content will be somewhat stable at steeper angles.

The LG Ultragear 32GQ950 offers HDMI 2.1 with VRR (dynamic update rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latitude Mode) so that consoles up to 4K / UHD and up to 120 Hz can be uncompromised. The display port is available in version 1.4 and is provided by DSC (Display Stream Summary). G-Sync and Freesync are supported as gaming displays.

Otherwise, LG does not want to release further technical details. But you can learn about optics, which is relatively simple for a gaming product and provides conventional lighting. Pricing and availability are currently open.
