AMD’s Ryzen 6900HX is expected to be announced at CES in Las Vegas on January 4, 2022, but its specifications have already been leaked, and some things are particularly interesting on the RAM and GPU side.
AMD Rembrandt (Ryzen 6000) processors will be running on laptops by 2022, and a leak tells us about the technological advances we can expect in this regard. Our colleagues Wccftech Really revealed some interesting information about the Ryzen 6900HX, a high-end processor that replaces the current 5900HX on laptops.
DDR5, but no 3D V-Cache
This CPU embeds 8 cores (and 16 threads) based on the Zen 3 architecture, but is based on the Zen 3+. The latter is a small evolution that brings an engraving process at 6 nm (currently up to 7 nm), as well as the 3D V-Cache, a vertical stacking technique for cache memory, which in particular promotes good performance in the game. Unfortunately, mobile versions of Zen 3+ CPUs do not use 3D V-Cache and this Ryzen 6900HX has to do with its 16MB L3 cache and 4MB L2.
At 4.6 GHz, it can be paired with DTR5 RAM and take advantage of its wide bandwidth, which is not expected for CPUs. Desktop Next architecture, only from Zen 4.
Since RDNA 2 microarchitecture – especially found on the Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 consoles – will be included under the name Radeon 680M and will modify the Vega configuration, the integrated GPU part of the processor can benefit from extreme performance gains. However, this type of processor, which is designed for high-quality PCs, usually integrates with dedicated graphics cards and may seem less interested in an integrated GPU. If the RDNA 2 architecture is integrated with other processors in the range of Ryzen 5 and 7, on the other hand, it will be more interesting for ultrabooks that do not have a dedicated GPU. According to the latest leaks BenchmarksExpect the performance of the GeForce GTX 1050 or MX550 from Nvidia’s exclusive entry-level graphics cards.
We do not yet know how many GPUs these RDNA 2 chips will send or when the Ryzen 6900HX will start running on laptops, but we need to know very soon at the next CES in early January 2022.
