Multiple GPU system
Sony sees great potential in consoles with multiple GPUs. The developers describe the possibilities of different hardware configurations: once a combination of SoC and a second GPU, once a system that relies on two SoCs or APUs. The company takes a lot of time to describe different memory configurations, but acknowledges that multi-GPU configurations bring their own issues that need to be addressed.
Last but not least, it describes ways to provide more computer power to users via the cloud. “By paying an additional fee, a user can allocate more chips (thus more APUs) to the cloud server, while only one chip will be allocated to weak payment users,” says the patent. These ideas may be relevant to the current PlayStation 5 as well. Of the current generation consoles on Sony, “Pro” simply means: high performance subscription.
