Samsung Cloud Shutdown: What you need to know

Samsung Cloud to crash: As of August 31, the South Korean manufacturer will no longer offer its backup service. Instead, Samsung is collaborating with Microsoft OnDrive, allowing its users to backup and restore data this way.

Samsung’s original plan is to end service on August 31, 2021. It was decided to extend the deadline to November 30, 2021, to give users enough time to “migrate or download their data”.

Samsung Cloud users still have three months to move data from online storage to OneDrive or download data to local storage. All data in the “Gallery Sync” and “Drive Storage” functions will be permanently deleted. Data migration for OneDrive will only be active until October 1, 2021 – after which only related files can be downloaded.

To start transferring to Microsoft’s OneDrive, you need to look at the settings of the Samsung Cloud app. You can go to the “Settings” option and the “Link to OneDrive” option via the three-point menu in the upper right corner of the screen, from where all the required files will be moved to the new storage location.
