“There is contact!” Dmitry Rogozin, director of Roscosmos, writes that a Russian block welcomes the first docking for the ISS in 11 years. The previous small research model was Roswet, which reached the station in 2010.
On July 29, after waiting 14 years on Earth and eight days in orbit, the new Russian science block successfully annexed the Nauka International Space Station (ISS).
The science block was launched from the Pykonor Cosmotrome in Kazakhstan on July 21 by a Proton-M rocket. The docking took place at 4:29 pm Moscow time (13:29 GMT), three minutes after the scheduled time.
“The involvement of the Nauka Multipurpose Laboratory module has been confirmed […] The International Space Station’s Svesta service module, ”the Russian space agency Roscosmos announced on its Twitter account.
This is the first Russian block sent to the ISS in 11 years. The previous was the small research model Rosvet, which reached the station in 2010.
According to the head of Roscosmos, Nauka will still need 6-8 months and a dozen additional vehicle emissions to fully operate and integrate into the ISS.
