Stadia is now available on additional platforms. In fact, Google’s cloud gaming service is now accessible on Android TV and Google TV’s Chromecast, but also on some operator’s boxes.
Since its release in November 2019, the Stadia Chromecast is only available on Ultra and Chromium based web browsers. However, Google yesterday announced that its cloud gaming service will be accessible from Android TV devices, but the company released the new Chromecast with Google TV a few months ago.
Players can download the Stadia app in some operator’s boxes. In fact, you can access the service for free from a freebox pop-up or from a box from PYCUS. The Stadia app is not included directly in the boxes, you need to download it from the Google Play Store. Unfortunately for Orange and SFR subscribers, None of their boxes work on Android TV.
Which Android TV devices are compatible with Stadia?
Google has officially listed new devices compatible with the Stadia app:
- Chromecast with Google TV
- Hisense ® Android Smart TVs (U7G, U8G, U9G)
- Nvidia Shield TV
- Nvidia Shield TV Pro
- OnnTM FHD streaming stick and UHD streaming device
- Philips ® 8215, 8505 and OLED 935/805 Series Android TV
- Xiaomi® MIBOX3 and MIBOX4
As you can see, the list is not very long, but that does not mean that the app can not be downloaded on other devices. In fact, Google notes that it is available on all Android TV devices, but is available on a trial basis.. Just like smartphones that are not officially compatible with the service, players may encounter some errors if they use a device that is not included in the list.
As a reminder, the cloud gaming site offers a free program that allows you to play the games you buy from its list, but Stadia also offers some free-to-play games. These include Destiny 2, Creta and Super Bomber R online. To run Stadia on Android TV, Buying a Stadia controller is not mandatory. In fact, this service supports other Bluetooth controllers.
