Potsdam’s researchers are discovering the largest structures that rotate in the universe. Your discovery raises new questions.

The universe is unimaginably large and full of things indescribable to humans. The Astronomy* And their neighboring expert areas work tirelessly to explain mysterious phenomena in space – and new, fascinating discoveries are constantly being made that need explanation. As noted by researchers at the Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Botstam (AIP).

Astronomers used the Sloan Digital Sky Survey to scan the sky and measure hundreds of thousands of galaxies to investigate the theory that the cosmic fiber spins. Textures are dark bridges that connect large bridges and clusters of galaxies. The researchers found what they were looking for: according to their own reports, they analyzed more than 17,000 fibers and found rotating structures. “A remarkable quality,” says Peng Wang, the study’s first author Published in the journal Nature Astronomy Is.

Researchers have discovered spinning fibers in the universe

Noam Lipskind, who started the project, added in AIP Communications: “Although they are thin cylinders – like pencil-shaped – they are hundreds of millions of light-years long, but only a few million light-years in diameter, rotate these magnificent streams. “On the scales of fibers, clusters” act like grains of dust, “Lipskind explains. “They move in paths like helical or corkscrew, they revolve around the axis of the fibers, they move longer,” the AIP researcher continues. “It’s wonderful to make sure that intercalatic threads spin in the real universe and in computer simulations.”

The largest structures in the universe rotate – what is the mechanism behind it?

Researchers have discovered the largest rotating structures in the universe to date. “Such a cycle has never been seen before on such massive scale, indicating that it has a body mechanism that is not yet known,” Lipkind explains. But how does the angular momentum that causes this rotation develop? The AIP says this question is one of the major unresolved issues in cosmology. According to researchers, there was no rotation in the early universe after the Big Bang – this must have happened later, probably when fiber-like structures formed.

The fastest rotation of the fibers discovered by researchers in the universe is 360,000 kilometers. In their study, the researchers did not want to suggest that all the fibers in the universe rotate – but there do seem to be rotating structures in space.
