Until June 1, 2021, all new photos and videos you save will be stored in Google Photos Calculate against free 15GB storage. If you don’t take a lot of photos, that’s no big deal. If you have a pixel phone, your photos will not count towards your total storage. (However, be aware that these are “high quality” compressed Google images, not original.) But if you want to take a lot of photos, be prepared to pay for Google One storage.
You can opt out and subscribe: Google One is not that expensive, Which compares with other photo services. But if you decide to upload your photos to another service – or want to save them to your computer’s driver or other local repository – you must first export them from Google Photos. Here’s how.
Google Takeout
The first thing to know is that you can not go to Google Photos and download your items. You must use the Google Export Tool.
- Go on Google Takeout. (You can go to the same page in Google Photos by selecting Settings, scrolling down to “Export your data” and clicking “Save”.
- You will see a long list of your Google Apps; They will all be checked beforehand. If you would like to use this opportunity to download all your Google data, please check it out; Otherwise, find the “Delete all” link in the checkbox title and click on it.
- Scroll down to “Google Photos”
- If you want to know the format in which your data will be exported, click on the “Multiple Formats” button. Basically your still images will be exported to their imported format (PNG, JPG, WEBP), videos will be exported to MP4, and your metadata will be exported in JSON text format.
- You can also choose not to export all of your albums. The second button may appear under “Google Photos” under “All Photo Albums Included”. If you only want to export some of your albums, tap on it and then select any albums you do not want to export
- Scroll down and tap “Next Step”
- You can now choose from a variety of options: whether you want to email your data as a link or send it to Drive, OneNote, Dropbox or Box; How many times you want to export your data (once a year or once every two months); File type to download (ZIP or TGZ file); How many files do you want to export? For example, if the exported file is larger than 2GB, you can split it into multiple files. I have about 39 GB of photos, which provides 19 zip files. You can request up to 50 GB of files, but Google says that more than 2 GB of zip files will be provided. Zip64 Formula.
- Click “Create an Export”
That’s it. Google will warn you that it may take hours or days for your data to become available; I have several thousand pictures and it took over half an hour for the export link to appear in my email. Of course, depending on your internet connection, they may all take longer to download.
