Android: Displays new malware as a system update from Google

A new one Android-App Acts as Google’s official computer update and works malicious code on user’s smartphone. Attackers can use the app to steal large amounts of data stored on the device. The application is distributed through third party stores.

As security researchers Zimbarium Write, the developers called the malicious application “system update”. The app also uses the official logo of the search engine group Google as an icon. The name and logo will appear in the notification menu so that the user can misinterpret the notification for information from the system. The app pretends to be actively looking for updates.

Officer only user Google Play Store Should not be affected by malicious use. Spyware is distributed only through third-party sources. In addition, there is no way the application can affect other devices independently.

The application accesses almost all user data

Malware is a remote access Trojan that accesses large amounts of information from a user’s smartphone and sends it to the command server. Hackers have the option to record calls and intercept messages. The application also collects browser history, photos and other data. The command server can order the affected device to activate the camera and microphone.

Malware is difficult to detect because the size of the sent data packets is small. However, the actual update services will not show the notification that updates are currently being checked. Instead, the user will only be notified if the system already detects a new update.
