Windows 10 21 H1: A spring update (even) light

The release date for this year’s next Windows 10 update is in a corner. Some operational improvements are expected.

The ball is in the court of companies: according to Microsoft Windows 10 21 H1 is ready for a “commercial release”, which pointed to the same thing in August 2020 for the previous smaller version. Area Carly, Microsoft’s senior program manager, said: “Windows 10, version 21H1, is now available to begin testing and verifying features that are common to paid customers. The publisher has not yet released a release date for this year’s first functional update. However, a month ago, Redmond hinted that unlike previous years, we would not have to wait for many new functions for this spring edition.

“Version 21H1 is currently offered for devices running Windows 10, version 2004 or version 20H2, using the activation package,” he said. This is the same technology we used to upgrade devices from Windows 10, version 2004 to version 20H2. “This is a command that allows the OS to run this new version, which is already integrated into its code. This activation package mechanism works on all PCs running Windows 10 20H2 or 2004. Business systems running earlier versions of Windows 10 have full access to 21H1 The system also needs to be downloaded.

Release for May 2021?

Available in .iso disk image format or in manual download format via WSUS (Windows Server Update Services). This is the second running update that has explicitly heard Microsoft trying to pay customers. Last year Microsoft released the same “pre-release business verification” announcement for Windows 10 20 H2, exactly two months before it was released to the public.

If you follow the Microsoft 2020 schedule, you can expect Windows 10 21H2 to be available in the third week of May, perhaps May 20 or May 21. Small Cold Rain: This spring update only has 18 months support, which is far from the usual 30 months for Windows 10 Enterprise and Education editions . From an operational point of view it is not simple and complete and these updates are unlikely to appeal to companies, for example, unless they are required to do so by circumstances such as the rental deadline for organizations. The results of support for Windows 10 21 H2 are expected to be extended until December 2022, once the schedule is completed.
