Washington.US space agency NASA has released spectacular video footage of a rover landing on Mars and the first audio recordings from the surface of the red planet. NASA announced at a press conference on Monday (local time) that no such recordings had been made before. “These videos are amazing,” NASA manager Mike Watkins said. “We all saw it many, many times over the weekend.”
Videos that have already been clicked a million times show the last eleven kilometers of the “diligence” path. For example, you can see how the parachute opens. The rover landing surface is also visible. The microphones on the rover sent the first sound recordings received from the surface of Mars. You can hear something on them that sounds like air gas.
According to NASA experts, the small helicopter on the rover seems to be “working properly”. “Ingenuity” (German: த்தி्ा) is still attached to the base of “diligence”, where it is currently charged. But in 30 to 60 days the helicopter will have to explore Mars from a bird’s eye view. This will be the first flight of a spacecraft on another planet.
The rover “diligently”, the size of a small car weighing about 1,000 kilograms, landed on Thursday – after 203 days of flight and 472 million kilometers of travel – with a dangerous maneuver in the dry lake of “Jessero Gorge”. Over the next two years, the lake, about 45 kilometers in diameter, will be “diligently” explored. dpa
