When it was released in Switzerland last month, Digital Foundry today offers an in-depth technical analysis of the Doom Eternal port. Their analysis is very positive and despite some perks the team notes that the work done by Panic Button is very interesting!

Here are some technical points covered:

    • The resolution is comparable to Doom 2016, but with a much clearer improvement on the visual level.
    • The number of pixels displayed is higher than the Wolfenstein 2 port on the switch.
    • The resolution can reach 720p in chopped mode compared to below 540p when there is a lot to display.
    • In portable mode, the resolution can go up to 600p and drop to 360p for the same reasons.
    • Slots, lighting effects, similar to other versions.
    • The textures in the switch are less detailed, but not all of them.
    • The most used structures are the most extensive, while the least used ones are the most blurry.
    • Removed motion blur and other effects from the switch version?
    • There is no depth of field effect when doing “Glory Kill”.
    • The status of the details is more visible in some areas.
    • The switch version has a lower smoke / particle effect.
    • The vertical lines visible during the digital foundry game certainly indicate that the dynamic resolution is due to the update system.
    • The positions are exactly the same in the switch version.
    • Even the quality of the animation.
    • Game 30 fps in chopped mode.
    • Performance in mini mode is similar to that in doc mode, although they sometimes indicate a slight visual delay.
    • In portable mode, the camera operates at a maximum speed of 20 fps and a lag was observed.
