This is the second Tuesday in January and the music you know: the new Windows 10 update awaits! Microsoft actually released its traditional patch on Tuesday, bringing back the role of fixes for your computer.

If you are using Windows 10 version 20H2, 2004 or 1909, you can now get the latest update on your computer. Microsoft has actually released KB4598242 and KB4598229, which can now be downloaded depending on the version of your computer. As a reminder, “Patch Tuesday” is an update to Windows 10 aimed at making fixes, especially in security. So this is nothing new. For this, we have to wait for the planned 21H1 or 21H2 update in the spring and fall, respectively.

In the meantime, let’s get back to the day’s update that brings many fixes. We are talking about general security improvements, security improvements when using external devices (controllers, printers, camera) or when using applications Gallery Office.

    KB4598242 for Windows 10, version 20H2 / 2004

If you are using one of the last two versions of Windows 10, you can now download the KB4598242 update. Here are the fixes used for this update, as Microsoft mentions in its changelog:

    • Refers to a security vulnerability issue with HTTPS-based intranet servers. After you install this update, HTTPS-based intranet servers will by default not be able to use the user proxy to detect updates. Scans using these servers will fail if you do not configure the system proxy on clients. If you want to use a user proxy, you must configure the framework using the “Allow user to use proxy if detection fails using system proxy” policy. Use the Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) Transport Layer Security (TLS) certificate on all devices to ensure the highest level of security. This change does not affect customers who use WSUS HTTP servers. For more information, see Scan Changes and Advanced Security for Windows Devices.
    • Authentication to the remote WinSpool interface Fixes a security bypass vulnerability in the way the printer remote call (RPC) binds.
    • Security updates for Windows application operating system and configurations, Windows Media, Windows Basics, Windows Kernel, Windows Cryptography, Windows Virtualization, Windows Devices, and Windows Hybrid Storage Services.

    KB4598229 for Windows 10 version 1909

If your computer has version 1909 of Windows 10, this time you will get the update named KB4598229. As a reminder, version 1903 has not been supported by Microsoft since last month. If it still equips your computer, consider updating to the latest version of Windows 10 (20H2) to keep it safe. The changelog for this update is here:

For more information, see the article KB4599464.
    • Indicates a problem that may cause file systems to crash and prevent booting after running chkdsk / f.
    • Security updates for Windows application operating system and configurations, Microsoft graphics components, Windows Media, Windows Basics, Windows Kernel, Windows Cryptography, Windows Virtualization, Windows Devices, and Windows Hybrid Storage Services.

    How to install this update?

Getting to your computer’s settings using the Windows + shortcut is not too complicated. All you have to do is click on the Update and Security menu and on the right side of the Windows Update window, click on the Search button for updates if it is not yet downloaded. The installation will be done very quickly and the connection will be used as soon as your machine is restarted. A good download!
