How to get a digital copy of your Aadhaar card

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) – which administers the government’s Aadhar Biometric ID scheme – allows Aadhar registered users to download a digital copy of their identity card. Here is a step-by-step guide to downloading a digital copy of the Aadhaar card:

On the Adar website (uidai.gov.in) under the “Adar Available” section the user selects the “Download Adar” option.

Next, the user selects one of three options to proceed:

• Source Number (UIT)
• Registration ID (EIT)
• Virtual ID (VIT)

At this point, the user can select whether a copy of the mask is desired. In the masked version, the full UIT is not visible.

After completing the required details, the user clicks the “Send OTP” button and enters the OTP or one-time passcode (obtained on the Aadhaar-registered mobile) at the specified location.

After this, the user selects the “Verify and Download” option to proceed.

Upon successful completion of the process, a digital copy of the Aadhaar card is downloaded to the device being used. The downloaded file is in PDF format and is password protected (the user must enter the password to access it).

The password is one of the capital letters of the first four letters of the user’s name, followed by the user’s year of birth in YYYY format, according to the UIDAI website.

You can use a similar process to download the Aadhaar card using the MAadhaar app.
