Spirling MSP Bruce Crawford has urged people in Stirling to download the new ‘Protect Scotland’ app to slow the spread of coronavirus and support the easing of lockdown restrictions.

The free, anonymous app can be downloaded on phones and lets users know if they have a close relationship with those who tested positive for Kovid-19.

It automatically alerts users if anyone reports that they have tested positive for Kovid-19 and that they have been in close contact with them recently.

The Scottish Government has assured that no personal identifiable information will be recorded in the app and that the app will use Bluetooth technology to identify contacts, and not HPPS, to monitor individuals’ location.

This app has already been downloaded more than 50,000 times since it was launched last night.

Crawford said: “The Scottish Government has not launched the ‘Protect Scotland’ proximity tracking application to stop the spread of the Kovid-19 virus and to complete the person-to-person approach of Test and Protect.

“The app – which takes less than a minute to download – allows us to alert people at risk very quickly so that we can all take steps to reduce the risk of infecting others.

“Scotland’s Official Contact Tracing app helps us protect ourselves, our family, our friends and our community by launching Contact Tracing faster.

“The more people who have the app, the more it helps to slow down the spread of coronavirus.

“That’s why I urge the people of Stirling to download the app, and let’s all protect Scotland.”
