Mario Kart VR is happening this July in a Tokyo arcade

Nintendo has hinted a few times last year that they are interested in VR, and just like fools we all thought that the Switch would welcome the new technology. But nope. This time, Nintendo has once again partnered with Namco Bandai to launch an evolution of Mario Kart Arcade GP DX – the arcade version of Mario Kart 7 that came out in 2013 – powered with VR. This Mario Kart VR is coming to Namco Bandai’s VR Zone in Shinjuku this July, and here’s a first look.

Fully titled Mario Kart Arcade GP VR, this arcade-only experience will run on HTC Vive headsets coupled with a special racing simulator seat. Based on the presentation video below, Mario Kart VR features a new first-person camera and gives players the possibility to throw items with gestures.

For the lucky few who are in Tokyo this Summer, we definitely recommend to check out Bandai Namco’s VR Zone. It will also have new virtual reality games based on Dragon Ball Z and Neon Genesis Evangelion!
