NBA Playgrounds has been out for about a month now, and Switch owners are still missing the possibility to play online with their friends. A lacking feature that gave rise to a consequent number of negative comments from fans towards Saber Interactive, especially given that the developer promised before launch only a few days of delay. This is why Saber Interactive decided to hand out free copies of their upcoming title Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn to everyone who owns NBA Playgrounds on Switch.
That’s right, the sequel of ’94 SNES fighting game Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn is slated for this Fall, and Switch owners can pick up a free copy if they purchase NBA Playgrounds prior to the online update. And since the awaited update still isn’t out yet, it simply means that if you buy the basketball title before then, you have two games for the price of one!
It certainly helps to wait, but we hope it won’t take too long. Meanwhile, NBA Playgrounds is receiving an update on other platforms which includes 15 new players, new Shaq variants, a Challenge Mode, a new Connection Manager, and an revamped shooting system (reworking timing, gauge meter, clarified UI).
Here’s the full statement from Saber CEO Matthew Karch:
We had every intention of launching online play for NBA Playgrounds on Nintendo Switch within days of release, but, despite our best efforts, it didn’t play out that way. We sincerely apologize for the delay and want to let everyone know the fix will be coming very soon. But words are cheap, and games are not. So we’re giving everyone that bought NBA Playgrounds on Nintendo Switch before the online play patch hits a free copy of Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn on Switch this fall to express our gratitude.
