Niantic has been hinting at the arrival of Legendaries in Pokemon GO for a long time now. Mewtwo & Mew were amongst the first ones to be teased – in the first trailer of the mobile game back in September 2015 – and we somehow expect the Legendary Birds (Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres) to join our Pokedex in the future. Be prepared, because the time of Legendary Pokemon is coming to Pokemon GO.
The 21st Annual Webby Awards ceremony was held last week to honour the best of internet. And of course, the massively successful Pokemon GO grabbed the Best Mobile Game Award. Niantic’s Product Marketing Lead Archit Bhargava came to accept the trophy, and delivered a brief but impactful speech, saying just one sentence: “This summer will be legendary” (19:05 mark in the video below).
This might have not made a big effect on stage, but fans saw a clear announcement of what’s to come in Pokemon GO. It also confirms the finds of dataminers who’ve found data in the game for Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-oh and Celebi. We don’t know yet where and under what circumstances they will be encountered, even though their lack of capture rate hints that they won’t be captured like the other common Pokémon (special group events like in the first trailer with Mewtwo?).
Hang tight for a full official reveal from Niantic and stack up on Ultra Balls, because it’s about to get Legen-wait for it…
