Splatoon 2: what happened to the Squid Sisters after the final Splatfest
Back in June 2016, Splatoon’s final Splatfest sowed the seeds of discord between the beloved Squid Sisters, Callie & Marie. Two days of ink-soaked battlefields arrived to a conclusion with a slight edge given to Marie (360 – 340), thus leaving Callie in the dark. And then… what happened to the fresh duo between that dividing outcome and the upcoming Splatoon 2?
Well, we now have the beginning of an answer thanks to the Squid Sisters Stories website that just got updated with an Introduction and Prologue (shown below). During the Nintendo Switch Presentation 2017 event, producer Hisashi Nogami confirmed that Callie & Marie are indeed returning this summer in Splatoon 2. But apparently, we might not see them as the tightly bonded Squid Sisters duo that they used to be…

About nine months have passed since the final Splatfest. Twilight lowers its curtain on Inkopolis. Neon signs paint the dusk in brilliant shades of green and pink. The Squid Sisters dance on, as though driven by the Inkling love of battling for turf. Memories such as these linger, vividly etched in my mind, but feel too like remnants of a long-forgotten past. It happened the night the final Splatfest came to an end.
The showdown of Callie versus Marie ended in victory for Marie, but there was no ill will between the two. The girls left the studio arm in arm, smiling and laughing as they always had. The bond between them would continue, unbroken, for years to come. Or so it seemed at the time…
