It’s always nice to go in your favourite video games store and discover those big cardboard advertising featuring latest releases. Some are rather simple, others come with game terminals and have all kinds of interactive stuff. And then there’s the top level with big retailers going all out, like Target is doing right now. Starting today, stores across the US are putting their game ON to welcome Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Nintendo Switch this April 28th.
It’s not the first time that Target goes crazy for a Nintendo game. Last year, they installed Poké Balls in front of their stores to welcome players during the Pokémon Go frenzy. And now, they’re promoting the upcoming Mario Kart in an even bigger way:
- Starting line: Store doors get a Mario Kart revamp, with a starting line and the Lakitu. As you walk through, motion sensors fire up flashing lights and play Mario’s catchy theme song.
- Super Target Karts: The in-store carts are dressed up as Mario Kart vehicles featuring Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach. If that’s not a call for cart races and bananas thrown between store aisles…
- Mario & Luigi bollards: The big red bollards designed to stop stray cars are transformed into Mario & Luigi heads.
[UPDATE] Target also released a TV spot to promote their “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe now at Target” campaign. Here it is!
