Ok, time to grab one of those if you’re in the US or Canada. Nintendo of America just confirmed to IGN that the NES Classic Edition is getting one last shipment to retailers this month. After that, the production will be stopped for the retro system, and for the NES Classic Controller as well. As for third party accessories, the decision whether or not to continue production will be up to each manufacturer.
Launched on November 10th of last year, the collector system was apparently never intended to be an ongoing, long-term product. But due to high demand, Nintendo did add extra shipments. Nintendo hasn’t confirmed anything yet for the rest of the world. However, if production is ending in North America, it’s just a matter of time before the NES Classic Edition disappears as well in other countries.
Throughout April, NOA territories will receive the last shipments of Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition systems for this year. We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability. We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product.
