A few days ago, there was this report from Reddit user sharing the point of view of Jeff ‘Tigole’ Kaplan (VP of Blizzard) on the Nintendo systems and his idea of probably seeing Overwatch on the Switch one day. Today, our eyes turn to another Blizzard huge hit among gamers: Hearthstone.
During an interview given at the HTC Winter Championships 2017 for the Express, senior game designers Mike Donais and Matt Place were asked if there was a possibility that the free-to-play online collectible card game could fit in the Nintendo Switch market. And apparently the system is not a major priority for Blizzard. However, they seem to be open to the idea:
“I personally haven’t talked about it but I’m more focused on card design. Hearthstone is available on iPads and phones, so it’s a good discussion worth having.” – Mike Donais
Of course, it would take a lot of work for the Blizzard teams to port Hearthstone on the Switch, but there is a lot of potential to extend their players base in doing so. The PS4/Xbox One don’t have the advantage of the portability nor the touch screen. The main question would rather be if a potential release on Switch could impact sales on the smartphones versions of the game.
If anything should be revealed, it will be done at the BlizzCon 2017 (November 3rd & 4th – Anaheim, California). Anything from Overwatch, Diablo 4 or StarCraft 3 could be announced and maybe, just maybe, we might have some Switch announcement.
