Yooka-Laylee developers create a N64 cartridge for the game

Playtonic reminds us of the good ol' days with that N64 cartridge

Upcoming platformer Yooka-Laylee is a celebration of the N64 days. It sounds like a Rare game, it breathes like a Rare game, it sounds like a Rare game. It’s no surprise when you know where developer Playtonic’s team come from (former Rare employees). And they embrace their origins, so much in fact that they went all the way back to the Nintendo 64 with a special edition of Yooka-Laylee.

The lucky Kickstarter backers that pledged the amount of $340 for the development of the game were promised a “64 Bit Edition” of Yooka-Laylee, among other pretty cool goodies (soundtrack, art book, etc). It’s almost ready for shipping, and the guys at Playtonic wanted to give you a shout it’s coming! For those of you who won’t get their hand on this, don’t get too excited, the Nintendo64 cartridge is just a flash drive, not a special version of the game for the N64 system.

Yooka-Laylee will release on Nintendo Switch in 2017.
