The japanese Pokémon Sun and Moon ads feature Usain Bolt

The Olympic champion stars in the latest Pokémon commercial

Once again, Nintendo Japan show that they can be pretty funky with their commercials. This time, they’ve asked the Olympic champion Usain Bolt to star in their brand new commercial for Pokémon Sun & Moon.

In this 30 seconds spot, the athlete reveals himself as a member of the Team Skull. He’s wearing the outfit and all, he even shows off with his signature move (and Pikachu takes a shot at it too). But what is Usain Bolt doing in a commercial for Nintendo? Well, his lines say it all: “Even in a Pokémon battle, I’m number one. […] We meet again. Don’t think you can run away”. He would make a perfect opponent in the game.

Now, to respond to the “what the fuck” effect that could arise from both sports and Nintendo fans, let’s not forget that it’s not the first time the company doest this kind of thing. Remember the ad with Penelope Cruz and her sister Mónica for the mystery-solving adventure game Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask (3DS)?

Pokémon Sun & Moon are now available on Nintendo 3DS.
