The Nintendo Switch will use friends codes
You can also invite friends from Super Mario Run and Miitomo!
With the online functionality up and running, thanks to the day one update, a lot of users are sharing information about the functionalities of the Nintendo Switch. Our fellows from Press Start got their hands on their console, and found out today how Nintendo wants us to connect with friends.
First, we’ll have the Friends Codes, 12-digit unique codes that will identify your account. You will have to give this to your friends if you want them to link their profile with you. Then, Nintendo gives us the possibility to search for local users, players that are around you. This will come handy if, let’s say, you’re strolling in a gaming event or meeting friends at a party.
Also, Nintendo allows to search for users we’ve played with. And that’s a really nice functionality, we’ve all been in online multiplayer games and played with total strangers that we wanted to connect with. However, there’s no details on the time period of memory for this feature. So if you encounter someone during your Splatoon 2 session and you want to connect, just don’t wait too much.
And at last, Nintendo gives the possibility to send an email invite. Simple and effective. We also spot in the photos shared by Press Start that your console will suggest friends to add. A nice touch for those who want to just expand their friends circle without effort.
[UPDATE] Polygon just updated us with the fact that in the future, we will be able to send request to friends associated with our NNID (Wii U/Miiverse) and Nintendo 3DS. There will also be games with an in-game interface that allows to send friends requests (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or Splatoon 2?).
